My Family & Other Animals


This is a recipe that was given to me by my Nana, Violet Byrne. It is yummy!! I have great memories of her serving it up hot with some custard and ice-cream mmmm!!! But it can be eaten cold as a cake as well.

2 cups self raising flour
1 cup boiled milk
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons of treacle
2 teaspoons of powdered ginger
1/4 teaspoon of bicarbonate soda
4 oz margarine/butter ( approx 4 1/2 tablespoons)

Mix all the ingredients together. Place in a well greased tray or cake tin and cook a 180C for 30 - 40 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.
