My Family and Other Animals

Diabetes Type 2

About a month ago my daughter sent me a link via messenger. A new doctors surgery had opened about 11 months before and she had made the decision to go to them. Using modern technology they were targeting specific age groups via social media - very smart!!

At that time I had been going to the same surgery for about 15- 18 years, but after an incident with one of the GP's I was not satisfied that I was receiving the best service that I deserved. This prompted the mass exodus of my family from said Doctors Surgery.

I found it very hard swapping to a new surgery. While you see them because of their medical knowledge, I also found that I needed to like and respect them and with the market swamped with over seas GP's, I also kind of wanted to be able to know that we were both talking the same language and could understand each others English. If I can't understand the person giving me medical advise, how do I know that they understand me? Sooooo......

After falling foul of an abscess on my finger because of my then un-diagnosed Raynaud's Syndrome, my daughter nudged (aka dragged) me to a new Surgery. I found 2 Doctors there that I really liked and unless they move, I will be staying there for some time. My daughter, she then discovered the social media campaign by the other surgery and moved to them, leaving her parents behind.

Sooooo I checked out the link she sent me and discovered that 'her' surgery was running a Diabetes workshop.

I wandered down on the designated evening and found that they were running a 12 week program with dietitians, specialists, exercise physiologists etc and all I needed to do was take the step and commit.

So last Saturday I went along to what I thought was a talk, which turned out to be a group exercise session and as I was walking back and forward along the footpath, counting our laps for the 10 minute walk,  with my 70 something female companion we chatted a little and compared a little of our medical history.  Needless to say, we came last!! My companion checked on me along the walk and as I said to my daughter.... OMG a 70 something woman with emphysema and diabetes was making sure I was OK!!!!  I need to get fit...
