My Family and Other Animals

Two Steps Forward by Graeme Simsion

I loved, loved, loved this book. After having read his first book the Rosie Project, the quirky sense of humour of the author Graeme Simsion flows through to the pages and for me made the book more enjoyable.

The story is about Zoe who has just lost her husband and on visiting an old friend makes a sudden decision to walk the Chemin de St Jacques/Camino de Santiago de Compostela from Cluny in Central France; and Martin who decides to make the same journey to test and prove a cart he has invented that can be used in place of the backpack. The two meet and at times walk together. There is a little romance but mostly implied. But the overall feeling of the book is of finding yourself.

At the end of the book there is a note to state that both Graeme Simsion and his wife Anne Buist have walked the same journey in 2011 covering just over 2,000 kms in 87 days.

Not only does the book make you feel good, it makes you want to jump up and go on a journey, blisters and all!!!
